This early 1960’s Ercol 355 ‘blonde’ wood Studio Couch / Daybed is an iconic design by Lucian Ercolani. Designed in 1958 it is highly collectable and much sought after piece as it typifies the very distinctive and elegance of design, the pinnacle of his range of furniture in the 1960’s in England.  There is a lightness of form as it can appear to float with some people having referred to the backboard as being similar in shape to a surfboard.

This is a very practical yet good-looking piece of furniture that is constructed of English Beech and Elm; the frame is steam bent beech to form the spindles and arched shape of the armrests and splayed legs and the backboard is of beautifully figured Elm which is held to the frame with three bolts and is removable.  It can seat up to four people and can also serve as an occasional bed.

The seat, reupholstered in a textured cream fabric some 15 years ago rests on Pirelli webbing which was replaced at the same time.
