Cassina Carimate Arm Chairs (pair)

$700

Cassina Carimate chairs designed by Vico Magistretti. Born in Milan in 1920, Vico Magistretti joined his father's architecture practice in 1945. In the post war years, Italy underwent major reconstruction including new housing developments and public buildings. Magistretti was a leader in the evolution of Italian Design which saw a new kind of collaboration between architects and manufacturers. Furniture became integrated into the architectural scheme and was specifically designed for new projects. In the 1960s Magistretti began working with some exceptional manufacturers including Artemide, Cassina and Oluce, designing objects for them which are still “classics” of modern day production. The Carimate chair was the first product designed by Magistretti and brought into production by Cassina. It is named after the golf club it was designed for. On offer is a set of 2 Carimate chairs (see also separate listing of two Carimate arm chairs). In original condition, natural beech wood. The woven rush seats are fully in tact and firm, with lightly frayed edges on the rolled fibre. A little discoloured in parts as would be expected with age. The wood frames have some minor scrapes and scuff marks. They are perfectly sound as is though could be restored to make them exceptional. Stamped 'Made in Italy', most likely Cassina. Price is for the pair. Read more about Cassina here.
