So you know something is missing from completing the room but you’re not quite sure what. The colours and textures are all working well together but it still has an unfinished feel that you can’t quite put your finger on. It’s more than likely to be an accent piece of furniture.
A piece that provides cohesion to the design and yet creates excitement, colour and drama to the interior space. A piece that reflects your personality and style yet is still functional and worthy of space in the room.
So how do you go about selecting such a piece? You may want to splurge here or equally pick up a brilliant second-hand furniture piece to complete your fabulous interior. Chairs are very often used as accent pieces. When you are selecting an accent chair look for one with a strong profile, or outstanding upholstery or a color that bowls you over.

Measurements are crucial
An important starting point before you hit the internet is to make sure you measure the dimensions of the room correctly and not just the space the chair will be placed. Know the ideal seat height, arm height and back height of the chair so that it fits the position properly. Also bear in mind the use of the chair. Will it be used infrequently for 10 minutes at a time or everyday slouching and snoozing?

Choosing a style
It can even be in a different style from the rest of your furniture for even greater contrast. We know that mixing two very different styles can create amazing results. So if the rest of your furniture is traditional, try bringing in a modern chair, or the other way round.
Whether it’s a rugged leather club chair or a mid-century modern Eames lounger, an accent chair is an easy and very functional way to infuse style into any room. At first glance, it may seem easy to choose an accent chair. However once you delve into the world of chic seating, the endless options can become overwhelming.

Make sure the bones are right
Make sure you always select a chair with great bones. A well constructed chair will have crafted joints for strength and durability, to stand the test of time. The ‘Bamboo’ chair (below) listed on Two Design Lovers has birdsmouth joints which are far superior to glued pieces. A well crafted chair can also be recovered in the future if you become tired of the upholstery but still love the shape and feel of the piece.
And if you really want to revamp your space you can always relist the item on Two Design Lovers. We focus on quality pieces with great design bones which means if you buy well in the first place, we can help you find a second home for your furniture in the future.
